We are dark, light, and all shades in between
We are precious, like silver and gold
We are kings and queens
We are afros, kinks, and coils
We are braids and weave
We are idealist,
still preaching,
“I Have a Dream”
We are silenced voices, and unheard cries
We are unjust deaths, covered up with lies
We are freed lives created from trapped souls
if they saw how
We are
treated today,
would they be happy to know?
